The OXA wedge type QCTP has been around awhile, it is nicely designed and works very well. This is the smallest size (#000) version modified specifically for the Sherline lathe by including an additional stud which is bored for a threaded rod that connects to a standard Sherline t-slot nut on the table. It is simple to install and works fine with one small exception. The #000 is designed to fit mini lathes with a swing over bed of up to 8” such as the common 7” and 8” Chinese mini lathes which are significantly larger. Although the Sherline “long bed” lathe has a full 17” between centers it has only a 3.5” swing over bed with a calculated table to spindle center of about 0.94”. Simply put, the tool holders on this device are too low. Adjustment of each holder is based on lowering the tool and locking it in place, and on the Sherline the standard ¼” tool tip already starts out just a little too low at the maximum height.There are various ways to fix this problem such as raising the tool post itself. The OXA post comes with a 40 x 44.5 mm spacer that could be used, but at about 9.04 mm thick it is too high for the stud. I cut a 6 mm thick spacer which worked okay, but the best solution for me seemed to be to machine a few shims for the holders. This worked fine for everything except the parting tool for which I had to make a custom part mounted under the locking nut to raise it enough. All in all, not a big deal but be aware that this QCTP is not entirely plug and play out of the box. Sherline sells its own QCTP which I am sure works perfectly with their lathes (unless you add the compound slide), but it is much more expensive.Other than that minor irritant which only needs to be fixed once, this QCTP is excellent. There are five holders included for turning, facing, boring and parting off tools which was all that I needed. They lock and remove in an instant and make it easier to do things correctly. For example, I can now switch from a RH turning tool to a LH tool for facing and back again without fiddling with heights (or just using the same RH tool for both which I often did), and the height is always set perfectly, or as well as I can do it anyway. This addition is not inexpensive, but if you use the lathe enough it is definitely worthwhile, and the OXA post is great.
